Float the crystal clear water through deep natural river canyons while navigating class III and IV whitewater in a guided oar boat.

Days will start with an optional yoga practice on the white sand beaches of the Salmon River and end with a relaxing meditation under the Milky Way. The rest of the day will be devoted to the river!

The ancient tradition of Yoga has long been a doorway to get back in touch with the natural wisdom contained within our bodies — a wisdom that helps us to navigate our life with greater skill, presence, and ability to respond to the rapids of our busy lives. Combining this practice in the natural setting of the Salmon River is deeply enriching and memorable.

This trip is open to folks who are curious about yoga as well as those who have a regular practice. The practices will be gentle for beginners and deepening for yogis.

Day 0: July 12– Arrival Day: Arrive in Clarkston, Washington at the Quality Inn & Suites by 6PM for our pre-trip orientation for introductions, to discuss the trip, receive personal dry-bags, and answer any remaining questions. If you are staying at the Quality Inn, you can leave your vehicle parked here for the trip, as well as store valuable items in a safe.

Day 1: July 13 – Launch/River Day: Depart from the Quality Inn Lobby at 8:30am to the river launch (~2 hour drive). Meet your Winding Waters’ guide crew at the launch. Following a brief risk management talk, embark on the beautiful Salmon River shortly before lunch. A delicious lunch will be served riverside. Encounter rapids such as RollerCoaster on this first day with time to swim, fish, explore archaeological sites and take in the breathtaking views. Arrive in camp around 4pm. Settle into River Life, and expect an evening of a delicious meal followed by meditation, yoga and relaxation under the beautiful night sky.

Day 2: July 14 River Day: The morning routine: hot drinks and fruit juice will be served by 6am followed by a morning yoga session on the beach. Breakfast will be served after Yoga and Meditation. After yoga and breakfast, the guide crew will break camp while you pack your personal things planning to begin the day’s float by 10am. Today we will enter Snow Hole Canyon and see more exciting whitewater, including Half and Half, the infamous Snow Hole, the Gobbler, Bodacious Bounce and the Bungholes. Also take time to visit a Chinese rock house, swim, fish, scan for wildlife and chat with friends. Lunch will again be served riverside today with camp arrival by 4pm. Expect another fun evening of beach games followed up by a fantastic meal, yoga and general merriment.

Day 3/4: July 15-16 River Day: Morning routine. Run more rapids such as China Bar, Eagle Creek, and Wapshilla. Lunch will again be served riverside with camp arrival being around 4pm. In camp take a swim, go on a short hike, read a book, catch a fish, play Bocce Ball, or simply lay in a hammock. You can expect a similar evening to the previous nights including yoga practice, meditation and camaraderie around the campfire.

Day 5: July 17 River/Take Out Day: Today we will pass the confluence of the Salmon and Snake Rivers. This spectacular location marks the end of the Salmon. A short hike at this confluence affords a 360 degree view of both rivers. Down-river, visit Cache Creek Visitor Center and Museum, a former homestead site where we typically have lunch. The shuttle van will be waiting for us to transport you back to the Quality Inn. Plan to arrive there anywhere between 4 and 6pm. If possible, we do not recommend making large travel plans this evening (flights, long drives, etc.). If time permits, we highly recommend a trip over to Joseph, Oregon. This is about a 2 hour drive.
