Our intention at Muddy Waters is to give you the space to feel at ease and the permission live fully awake and alive. Yoga gives us a template on how to live in a purposeful and meaningful way. We'll be sharing yoga stories from people who have done the work and come out on the other side. This yoga story series is meant to give you an insight into the powerful transformation that can come when we deepen and commit to our yoga practice.

Why did you start yoga?
When I was around 16 years old, I started practicing yoga for the physical benefits and also to build a positive relationship with my body. I got a few books on yoga and a year subscription to Yoga Journal magazine and would practice the poses and sequences from them daily. As time went on, it became more than just a physical practice. I traveled a lot following high school and at times, my mat was one of the few constants in my life. My practice became the sanctuary I could go to check back in with myself and work through whatever I was feeling at the time. Yoga became an important part of my life and wellbeing.

Why did you sign up for yoga teacher training at Muddy Waters?
Taking a yoga teacher training had been a dream of mine since I was 18, but I never found anywhere that really spoke to me... until I went to Muddy Waters. The first few classes I took I left feeling so inspired, and I knew it was a special place. The classes are taught with accessibility for all people in mind and leave students feeling empowered, which is the type of yoga I aspire to teach. I love how Muddy Waters gives respect to the history of yoga and the teachings go far beyond the physical postures. At Muddy there is such a wonderful community of passionate teachers and students that really care about each other and that brings about a strong sense of belonging for everyone.

How it has changed your life?
Muddy Waters’ YTT has changed my life in so many ways. I find myself having a happier relationship with myself, others, and just a real sense of gratitude for everything in my life. Yoga teacher training leads you along this path inside of yourself, encouraging deep self-realization and getting to know and trust your inner wisdom. I am more present in my life, more stable in my emotions and mood, less swayed by what's going on in the external world around me. This mindfulness has brought about a newfound excitement for caring for myself and those in my life. All of the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about yoga and put their whole hearts into the training. I felt it was such a safe space for everyone, and really allowed me to take down my walls and open my heart to sharing my inner story. I feel confident in knowing how to teach yoga to all bodies, in a safe way that will empower the students. I am excited for my future as a yoga teacher and I thank Muddy Waters for offering this yoga teacher training, it was truly a magical experience.
